British Tennis Membership
Many of our members – 142 at last count - have already signed up for British Tennis Membership. However, that means nearly 200 of our playing membership have still not joined. There are many benefits to joining. You can request a performance rating to give you extra motivation for your matches. Once you are a member you will have access to an exclusive area of the LTA website, in which you will find features, tips and information from around British Tennis and all of this is FREE!
However, there is another huge incentive to sign up. From 2009, allocation of Wimbledon tickets to our club will be based on the number of members who have signed up as British Tennis Members by 30th November 2008. Wimbledon tickets through the club ballot will then only be available to those members, so if you have not signed up, we will be unable to include you in our ballot.
You can join online via the LTA website by clicking here, which only takes 2 minutes & gets you signed up straight away. Alternatively, there is an application form which you can send off. We have copies of these forms at the Club. You can also join by phone – just ring 0845 873 7202. With just over 2 weeks to go, please get registering. You know it makes sense!
Competitions Manager
I am looking for someone to take on the role of Competitions manager at the club, as it is increasingly difficult to manage this and my coaching role. This would involve the following: sending out and collecting in entry forms; making tournament draws; on-going management of the tournaments; order and collect the trophies; submit singles results to the L.T.A. The events concerned would be the Club Championships, Autumn Championships, Team Singles League and Team Tennis.
Whoever takes this role would obviously need to be fairly organised, have reasonable IT skills, a knowledge of players at the club and the time to do it all! I would be able to assist particularly in the first year. Even if you could only do part of this role please let me know. You can contact me using the above phone numbers or e-mail address.
Mistletoe and Wine
The Mistletoe and Wine is approaching rapidly – Sunday 14th December from 1p.m. This will feature a tennis tournament between teams put together on the day. Our top chef Mike O'Connell & his willing assistants will be serving up mussels and mulled wine. All will be available for £4.00 per person. Please support this event – it’s a great fun day! Lots of tennis, food and drink. What could be better? Sign up on the sheet in the clubhouse.
New Year's Eve Party
The Committee has unanimously decided to hold this year’s New Year’s Eve Party on 31st December – 8.00p.m. start. This is always a popular event with a great atmosphere, so please come along & join us! There will be a disco with a DJ and the cost for the evening is just £3.00. Please bring some food with you. A sign-up sheet will go up in the clubhouse nearer the time. By overwhelming demand we will be holding The New Year's Eve draw again, with 3 cash prizes.
Junior Matchplay Prizes
Doug and I are trying to encourage more of our players to practice and compete regularly. Here's a really big incentive to play lots of matches this Autumn and Winter. The club will be awarding a winner's prize of £100 and a runners up prize of £50 to the players who gain the most points in our 'ratings race' from 11th October to 30th April. The prize will be in the form of either ‘Sportsworld’ or ‘Amazon’ vouchers. The competition is open to players rated 9.1, 9.2, 10.1 and 10.2, both boys and girls. Players must be in this year's 16 and Under age group or younger (born 1992 or later). For rules details see junior notice-board. Please keep a record of all your matches!
